Archinal out at WPXI

Pittsburgh: Archinal, WPXI PhotoSome WPXI-TV (11) viewers might have been surprised early today when morning anchor Newlin Archinal said her goodbyes on the air. Today was her last day at WPXI - a move which had been in the works for some time. News director Corrie Harding told the PG that it had nothing to do with performance issues but improving the morning newscast as a whole. It was a station decision to replace Archinal which could mean that they opted not to renew her contract or that she didn't accept the terms of a new contract. Archinal joined the station in 1999. She hopes to stay in Pittsburgh.

Of course the decision to get rid of Newlin had been in the works for some time. WPXI wanted to see how much it was going to cost to get Julie Bologna back. It’s a shame they let Newlin go…personally, I would have gotten rid of Bob Bruce!

You’re absolutely right, Tim; the “Ken Doll” known as Bob Bruce should have gone, not Newlin. She just brings such a sense of class and refinement to the anchor desk. Another great move for a station that, in the past, has had such “luminaries” as Alan Frio, Beverly Byer, and Ron Jaye manning the anchor desk. Unbelievable!
Maybe We can start up a new newscast that would be made up of some recent “castoffs”. I’m pretty sure I’d watch a newscast consisting of Newlin and Scott Baker over anything currently being offered in the Pgh market! We can add Val Abati to do the weather. Anyone can do the sports, as long as he can spell and pronounce “Roethlisberger”.

I guess Julie Bologna could not make it in Texas. I could not stand her when she was here before and could not pronounce words, especially with an “R” in it. I think WPXI news is terrible anyway so I don’t watch them. Actually none on any station is worthing watching.
