Where's Uncle Dougie?

Pittsburgh:

An alert PBRTV reader informed us that today's Doug Hoerth program appears to be a rerun. However, this reader also pointed out that Doug's info has been removed from the WPTT website. That made us curious, so we checked the WJAS Website as well - no Doug. More as we hear it.

UPDATE: Comments are closed.

Hmm, something much be up if he is off the website now. My speculation that something may have happened. If Uncle Dougie was planning on leaving radio I highly doubt he would have left unannounced.

wierd. if uncle douggie was blown out, why would they play a rerun of his show? if he was blown out, the folks there are nuts. what they need is to get a better signal

Doug’s podcasts were taken down. Unfortunately, I’m guessing he was fired. Didn’t they just throw a 25 year anniversary gala for him; awful two-faced!! Can you say John McIntyre?

Yes, firing is the first thing that comes to mind. However I also wonder at the possibility of a sudden, unexpected health problem. Uncle Dougie would, from time to time, discuss his various ailments and conditions. God, I hope he’s OK and nothing serious has happened to him.

I would love to hear Jeff Schneider’s Unshow take over his spot. His show on WURP (Edge 1550) was the best. I really miss it.

For what it’s worth, PBRTV emailed Renda Broadcasting management on Monday and Tuesday asking for a comment.

We haven’t heard back yet on the record from an official source; when we do, we’ll post the statement here.

We’ve also tried to get word to Doug that we’d be interested to hear his side, too. (Unfortunately, Uncle Doug changes his phone number frequently, and the one we have doesn’t work any more.)

I agree with the previous poster:

If he was fired, why re-play old clips from past shows?

But the fact that they’ve removed all Uncle Dougie references from the station website does not bode well.

I am in total disbelief at Uncle Dougie’s disappearance. I figured he was sick all week, and didn’t even have a suspicion, although, Greg never said anything. I just found out right now when I tuned in on my computer and the oldie’s show is not on. Meanwhile, not a word for us faithful listeners. I just am so upset!

Sad..sad..sad. I have been a road warrior and Doug Hoerth listener for 15 years. Now all I have to listen to is politically biased crap. Aside from being one of the best interviewers I have ever heard, he would make you chuckle the whole way home. As controversial as Laura Ingram is, I would think she would pull a smaller audience than Dougie. (Oh, I heard her today at 3:00 Monday, Dec. 10th)

I cannot believe that “Uncle Dougie” is gone from Pittsburgh radio. I hope he shows up on a another station. And I agree the only thing I disliked about his program was the WEAK signal, particularly in Winter. Let us know if he he gets another radio show.

E-mailed WJAS on 12/09/07 on 12/10/07 Mike McGann replied that “Doug’s contract was not renewed by corporate.” That’s all.

Hello. How could they get rid of Uncle Dougie? I am so disappointed. He was the best part of Sundays. Doesn’t anyone care what Baby Boomers like? He was fun, had the best sense of humor, great intelligence and was a neat connection to past times. What’s wrong with Radio Channel 1320? Isn’t there any way that the Grinch that stole Uncle Dougie could bring him back?

I was a regular listener to “uncle Dougie” on sunday night, it was the best show on for 50’s 60’s MUSIC..
If anyone finds where he is, Please tell me.
Thanks..
I no longer listen to WTAE, if they dont want doug, i dont want them.

doug is good enough to go national. he needs to get on a better radio station. i hope he comes back soon and i hope we get to hear from him as to what is going on he was the number 1 talk show host in pgh

I agree with Ron C. Doug Hoerth was excellent, and if WTAE doesn’t want him, I don’t want them. I loved listening to his knowledgeable and fun presentation of 50’s & 60’s music Sunday nights. I listened on the web, and now I refuse to listen to any Renda Broadcasting. Please update his loyal listeners if you hear where he can be reached. Thanks. JO’B

Really miss Doug’s Sunday night show. I like many others have no reason to listen to WJAS anymore. Hope to hear Doug on the airwaves again..

Sorry to see him go, but his show was always the same, unless he had a good guest on-air with him, which in recent years was extremely rare. That station’s signal (WPTT’s) is so weak and static-ridden that it’s amazing that anyone listens after sunset, especially in the winter months. (Hoerth’s show was late afternoon drive-time.) Hoerth sure did work at a lot of different radio stations in Pittsburgh over the years! He did early mornings (briefly, when WTAE-AM 1250 first went all-sports), PM drive-time, and early evenings, way back when he was with KDKA. Lately, he had been working out, and had slimmed down. I think he still smoked, however. He mentioned an out of town girlfriend many times, as well. Lay-off the BigMacs, Uncle Douggie, and have a long life!

Does anyone know if Doug has resurfaced in Pittsburgh yet?
JT - April 16, 2008 at 4:26 pm

If he turns up I wouldn’t mind knowing where.
